How many calories should I eat daily to lose 10 pounds?
Female 18 years old 120 pounds, 5'6" I eat about 1500 calories a day, and I want to lose 10 pounds. Exercise is hard with my schedule, but I do try to bicycle at least a couple times a week/do pilates. Should I cut my calories in order to lose weight, or is 1500 a good daily amount? Any weight-loss suggestions are welcome.

- I wouldn't recommend going under 1500 calories per day. The other concern is if your 5'6", why are you trying to drop to 110#? It isn't recommended to go under 114# because your BMI will drop below 18.5, which is considered unhealthy.
- I think that you might consider staying at this level of calorie consumption but try to spread it out to more meals per day. Also I recommend doing strength exercises as they help to build muscle tissue to assist in the calorie burning process Look up some strategies here: http://www.squidoo.com/HowToLose10Pounds
- It's always best to do a combo of exercise and healthy diet, to lose weight. To lose weight, the law of calorie balance says that you need to consume fewer calories than you burn. The present exercise routine you commit to and the calories you consume, sure, you would be able to create a caloric deficit of 500 calories per day, based on the average number of calories a normal person consumes, which ranges from 1,800 - 2,000 calories. Let's say it's the upper end of 2,000 calories - so thru diet alone, you've already created a caloric deficit of 500 calories per day......Plus exercise, it would be more..... On a weekly basis, you would then shed off 3,500 calories (500 calories x 7). 3,500 calories = 1 lb of fat (weight). So, in a week, you'll lose 1 lb of weight. In 2.5 months, you'll get rid of the 10 lbs you want to shed. Here's a guide on how to count calories: http://www.perfect-body-toning.com/how-to-count-calories.html
- what you're doing is right on. my wife and i have lost weight easily doing the same with the pen and paper diet. it took me about 2 and a hlaf months to lose 15 lbs and i've kept it off. according to the book, your normal weight shouldn't go lower than 115 lbs per ideal bmi. it says if you consume around 1950 cal/day you should slowly drop. of course if you consumed less you drop it quicker and then you could bump it back up to 1950.
