When trying to get toned and lose weight, is it better to lose inches or pounds?

- both
- both...i mean if you loose inches you will lose the lbs..but losing inches helps you fit in your clothes better
- I pick both. Im 159, and 5'4...... help!!!!!!!!
- When trying to trim up, its best to aim for inches. Muscles weigh more than fat does, so weight isn't always a good indicator of how well you're doing.
- if you're going to choose one to look at how you're doing, i'd say pounds. cos pounds come off a lot quicker than inches and it is a lot more motivating to see that you genuinely are losing weight. also, as you drop the pounds, you drop the inches too!
- I think its better to lose inches, because building muscle mass has weight. SO LOOSE THE INCHES.
- Inches, because lbs could just be water weight.
- if i were u i wouldnt even stress about how much i weight, just as long as your satisfied with how u look in the mirror
- At the beginning of a work out regiment you may lose both at the same time, or you may actually gain weight. If you are doing resistance training and adding muscle your weight may very well go up while your waist size goes down. As you start to convert fat into lean muscle mass you will be adding a heavier substance. You should pay little to no attention to your weight but rather to your body make up. I am 6'3" and normally hover around 225 to 230 lbs. Most height/weight tables will say I'm over weight, but they don't take into account Body Mass Index. I have been a soldier for many years and have to take a BMI test at every physical. This is to see how much of your body is fat, and how much is muscle. If you simply judge by weight than every body builder would be "fat". So pay attention to how you look, feel, and can perform, not the scale
- You will be looking to lose both inches and pounds. Cardio exercise can burn fat (and gain muscle, by including other muscle building physical activity). If you try to lose weight without exercise, you will be losing muscle and keeping the fat. Here are a few simple tips to remember. Muscle: weighs more than fat (greater density). Muscle: 1 lb. muscle takes up less space than 1lb. of fat. (again...due to greater density) Muscle: body burns this first when dieting WITHOUT exercise. (leaving dimply jelly-like fat still on our bodies to keeping shaking/wiggling as we walk). Fat: Weighs less than muscle (less dense). Fat: 1lb. fat takes up MORE space than 1lb. muscle. (again...due to being less dense). Fat: Body burns this first when exercising (leaving that wonderful lean muscle left on our bodies, without the jiggle, etc.) So... If we diet with appropriate exercise, we should lose the most fat and gain some muscle, which means lose LOTS of inches and weight as well. I hope this helps you out.
